Volunteering

There are many opportunities within the organization to support the resettled refugee community and the city of Cleveland as a whole. Primarily, we are looking for volunteers in two of our initiatives: the home tutoring program and REAP. More information can be found below concerning each program and how volunteers can plug in.

Home Tutoring Program

The TRR Home Tutoring Program provides one-on-one tutoring, ESL help, and mentorship for resettled refugee students and adults. Learn more >>

Volunteer tutors are paired up with a student, with whom they will meet weekly to help the student reach his or her academic goals, which are established based on Ohio standards and input from each student's teachers. Volunteers also have the opportunity to chaperone field trips to local attractions such as the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, Great Lakes Science Center, and more.

Please fill out an application if you are interested in volunteering as a tutor.

Refugee Empowerment Agricultural Program

REAP provides education, employment and job training to recently resettled refugees with an existing agricultural skill-set. Learn more >>

Volunteers with REAP will likely be providing hands-on work at the Ohio City Farm alongside resettled refugee trainees, including tasks such as weeding, harvesting, bed building, grass cutting, and general cleanup. A primary goal of REAP is providing a platform for trainees to bolster their vocational English, so volunteers will be asked to engage in conversation with the trainees throughout the work day.

For the 2011 season, we are looking for volunteers for the first and third Sunday each month from July through November. If you are interested in volunteering with REAP, please email Shawn.
