Alexandra Magearu

Mentor Support Coordinator

Alexandra Magearu is an educator, researcher, and writer, with a background in postcolonial theory, literature, and pedagogy. As the Mentor Support Coordinator for the Youth Mentoring Program at The Refugee Response, Alexandra helps with recruiting and supporting volunteer mentors and participates in the development of training and other educational resources for mentors.

Alexandra was born and raised in Romania, and she moved to the United States in her mid twenties to complete her doctoral studies in postcolonial literature and transnational feminism. Her dissertation research explored Franco-Maghrebi and Anglophone Arab literature, with a focus on displacement, migration, and gendered resistance. Before joining The Refugee Response, she worked as a university lecturer at UC Santa Barbara and as an educator, researcher, and immigration advocate in the Cleveland area, contributing to the work of organizations such as Literary Cleveland and the InterReligious Task Force on Central America and Colombia. She has taught community-engagement courses on migration literature and on various aspects of the U.S. immigration system.
